The Shire of Dardanup has been acknowledged as a RoadWise Council, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to enhancing road safety within the community.
This recognition comes as part of the WALGA RoadWise initiative, which has successfully completed its inaugural year supporting best practice road safety across Local Governments.
In its first year, the RoadWise Council initiative saw participation from 66 Local Governments, each dedicated to advancing road safety practices tailored to their communities. The initiative was recently highlighted at the recent WALGA Local Government Awards 2024, where 66 councils, including Dardanup, were honoured for their proactive efforts in road safety improvement.
Shire President Cr Gardiner said the Shire became a RoadWise Council in April 2024, reaffirming its commitment to fostering safer roads for our residents.
The Shire’s dedication to road safety has been recognised with the award of two Ribbons, reflecting its comprehensive approach to road safety management.
"This initiative has allowed us to identify key road safety priorities and implement measures aimed at systematically improving safety outcomes across our local network,” Cr Gardiner said.
“This includes initiatives such as staff training in Road Safety Audits, participation in the Road Safety Vanguards program, and the development of a robust process to monitor and prioritise Black Spot locations for safety enhancements.
"The RoadWise initiative, supported by WALGA, has been instrumental in guiding our efforts to embed best practices in road safety.
"We are committed to leveraging this recognition to further enhance our road safety strategies, ensuring safer journeys for all."
Cr Gardiner said the Shire aims to continue strengthening its road safety framework through initiatives like the Capacity Indicator Checklist and network safety rating assessments.
These efforts are designed to elevate road safety as a priority in all aspects of the Shire's operations, ultimately delivering safer road environments for the community.
