The Shire of Dardanup is proud of its natural resources and is mindful of the role the Shire plays in protecting critical environmental values.

The Shire works in partnership with all levels of government, industry and community groups to maintain biodiversity values and where possible improve degraded areas.

The Shire of Dardanup continues to experience significant growth with several large scale residential and commercial developments planned.

To manage these pressures and potential impacts on the environment, the Shire of Dardanup has developed the Shire of Dardanup Biodiversity Strategy and supporting documents such as the Reserve Management Plans for key areas of remnant vegetation on the Swan Coastal Plain.

The Shire is actively involved in several regional initiatives that are aimed at conservation, biodiversity and protect critical environmental assets, flora and fauna.

The Shire of Dardanup is an active member of the Leschenault Catchment Biosecurity Group which is focused on managing problematic weeds and pests.

  

Local Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the natural variety of living things including plants, animals and micro-organisms, the genes they contain and the ecosystems of which they form a part.

Conserving our biodiversity is critical to preserving our lifestyle plus the continued growth and prosperity of the Shire.

This involves protecting and managing natural areas such as native vegetation, wetland, watercourses or other ecosystems that retain a reasonable level of naturalness and therefore biodiversity.
