The Shire of Dardanup has been notified by the Bunbury Harvey Regional Council (BHRC) that its Banksia Road Organics Processing Facility has capacity and contamination issues and as a result, it is currently not receiving FOGO from the Shire and neighbouring councils.
Shire President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said while this news is disappointing the Shire would continue to work with BHRC until these issues are resolved.
Cr Gardiner said this change will not affect collection days for Shire residents, however it will unfortunately result in FOGO collections being diverted to landfill.
“FOGO collection has been an important part of the Shire's sustainability and waste management strategy, helping to divert organic waste from landfill and reduce environmental impact,” Cr Gardiner said.
"We understand this decision by BHRC is not ideal and may cause frustration for our residents who are passionate about FOGO and sustainability.
“The Shire remains committed to working with BHRC to stay informed on their capacity and contamination challenges. We will keep our community informed of any updates along the way.”
