Shire recognised for best-practice financial reporting

The Shire of Dardanup has been recognised by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries as a Best Practice entity for the 2022/23 financial year.

Shire of Dardanup President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said the accolade comes from the Office of the Auditor General's annual Local Government 2022-23 Financial Audit Results report, highlighting the Shire’s exemplary financial reporting practices.

Cr Gardiner said the report summarises the final results of annual audits conducted on 137 of 147 local government entities for the year ended June 30, 2023, as well as one remaining audit from 2021-22.

“The Shire of Dardanup is proud to be listed among the top 20 Best Practice entities, a testament to the diligent efforts of our entire team, especially the Corporate and Governance department,” Cr Gardiner said.

“This is the result of its commitment to maintaining high standards in financial management and reporting.

“This is the second consecutive year that entities have been rated on their financial reporting practices, and the Shire of Dardanup is honoured to be acknowledged among the best.”

According to the Office of the Auditor General’s website, the criteria used to measure the quality of financial reporting included:

  • Timeliness of CEO-certified financial report.
  • Quality of financial report (financial statements and notes).
  • Quality of working papers that support the financial report.
  • Management resolution of accounting matters.
  • Key staff availability during the audit.
  • Number and significance of management letter findings.
  • Clear audit opinion.
