Have Your Say: Fight the Bite Mosquito Awareness Survey

Published on Friday, 21 June 2024 at 3:18:36 PM

The Shire of Dardanup is calling on the community to share their thoughts on the effectiveness of the "Fight the Bite" mosquito awareness program.

Your feedback is crucial in helping us ensure the program is effectively protecting our residents from mosquito-borne diseases.

Why your feedback matters

Mosquito-borne diseases pose a significant public health risk throughout the South West of Western Australia. The most prevalent risks in our region are the Ross River and Barmah Forest viruses. To combat these threats, the Shire is working with the City of Bunbury, Shire of Harvey, Shire of Capel and City of Busselton.

Our approach to mosquito management

The Shire of Dardanup, in liaison with the WA Department of Health and neighbouring local governments, operates a comprehensive mosquito management program focusing on three key functions:

  • Monitoring: Regular monitoring of mosquito larvae and adult populations to assess the risk levels and identify breeding hotspots.
  • Treatment: Targeted treatment of major wetland breeding sites and identified localised areas to reduce mosquito populations.
  • Communication: Conducting awareness campaigns to enhance public understanding of mosquito risks and promote personal prevention strategies.

Your role in improving mosquito awareness

We are currently reviewing the effectiveness of our "Fight the Bite" mosquito awareness messages. To ensure that our efforts are as impactful as possible, we need your input. By participating in a brief three-minute survey, you can help us understand how well the community is receiving our messages and what improvements can be made.
