The Shire of Dardanup’s inaugural Christmas in the Park event transformed the Burekup Oval into a festive wonderland on Friday, 13 December.
Shire President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said more than 400 attendees enjoyed the night of free entertainment, markets, food trucks, children's activities and Christmas fun – the first of many events in the Shire’s highly anticipated Summer Series program.
Cr Gardiner said the event featured a fantastic lineup of performances including the Philharmonic South West (Youth) Orchestra “Sinfonietta” who wooed the audience with carols played on a variety of percussion, string, woodwind and brass instruments.
The Sinfonietta was followed by a lively performance from the Tartan Tempest, a local string playing group who take inspiration from Scottish fiddle music.
The Bel Canto Choir closed out the entertainment with a performance featuring classics such as Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town, which had attendees dancing.
“It wouldn’t have been Christmas without a very special visit from Santa Claus himself. The Burekup Bush Fire Brigade were kind enough to pick him up form the North Pole and deliver him to Christmas in the Park,” Cr Gardiner said.
“Children and families were able to take pictures and get a free polaroid with Santa in the Christmas corner, it was an absolute success.
“The event also featured an assortment of market stalls, which allowed people to to browse for gifts inbetween performances. The little ones were kept entertained with free facepainting, Christmas bauble decorating and rides on Ronnie the Train from the Australind Lions.”
Cr Gardiner said the Shire’s Summer Series is made possible through the generous support of Umbrella Realty, Southern Ports Authority, J&P Group, and Doral.
Managing Director from Umbrella Realty, Celestine Pfuhl said the event was a fantastic celebration aimed at encouraging community togetherness and spirit.
“Umbrella Realty is delighted to sponsor the Summer Series, celebrating the spirit of our community through events like Christmas in the Park at Burekup,” Ms Pfuhl said.
“With live musical performances, vibrant artisanal markets, and even Santa arriving on a fire engine, it was a joy to share in the festivities and support such a memorable gathering and many more in the new year."
