The Shire of Dardanup’s nearly completed Library, Administration and Community Building will now feature a state-of-the-art Make-It Space thanks to a generous partnership agreement with Wespine.

Shire of Dardanup President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said the Make-It Space will be a cutting-edge and imaginative community space that fosters STEM education, innovation and community involvement.

Cr Gardiner said while the new Library, Administration and Community Building is scheduled to open in late March, the Make-It Space will open later in the year as a collaborative workspace for making, creating, learning, exploring and sharing, by providing access to the latest tools, materials, and resources for community members from all walks of life.

“The partnership with Wespine will realise the community-driven vision of a hub and precinct that serves the Shire of Dardanup and broader community through shared community spaces, commercial activity and public services,” Cr Gardiner said.

“The space is open to children, adults, and entrepreneurs and will have a variety of maker equipment, including 3D printers, laser cutters, computerised numerical control machines, soldering irons, robotics, automation technology and even sewing machines.”

“The Make-It Space will provide an opportunity for our community to learn and spark a passion for technology, design, innovation, education and critical thinking – opportunities that keep skills in the South West. Its location right next to Eaton Fair is the perfect for activation and engagement and will be at the heart of the new Eaton precinct.

“It’s an exciting time for our Shire as the new Library, Administration and Community Building nears completion in the next month, and we look forward to opening this space to the community.”

Wespine Managing Director Patrick Warrand congratulated the Shire on the Make It Space project, an initiative that fits well with a number of Wespine’s values such as courage to innovate, striving to excel and taking action.

Mr Warrand said supporting such an innovative and community orientated space is an exciting opportunity for Wespine and he looked forward to watching the programs at the centre benefit people of all ages and abilities in the community.

“Wespine has been processing timber, predominantly for use in the construction of houses, from within the Dardanup community for more than 30 years, providing career pathways for our 250 employees who live in Dardanup and the surrounding communities,” Mr Warrand said.

“We have been providing support for community based projects for many years and it is very rewarding to see projects such as the Make It Space come to fruition.

Wespine has proudly supported local communities in Western Australia since its establishment in the 1990s. Wespine contributes in a variety of ways including by providing bi-annual community grant funding, being a Gold Sponsor of the Dardanup Bull and Barrell Festival and by giving back to local groups in the Dardanup vicinity.
