It’s time to start thinking about someone you know who is doing amazing things in the Shire of Dardanup.

You can nominate them for the 2025 Community Citizen of the Year Awards, which celebrates the positive impact of individuals and groups who are engaged and committed to our Shire.

Whether they are a nominee or recipient, it’s a time to celebrate their outstanding contribution, because we’re all part of the story.

Recognising local heroes for more than 20 years, the Awards are made up of four categories:

  • Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years).
  • Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years).
  • Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over).
  • Active Citizenship (for community groups or events).

Nominations can be made for contributions to education, health, fundraising, voluntary services, business, sports, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that enhances the wellbeing of our community. For the full criteria, visit www.citizenshipawards.com.au/criteria

Shire of Dardanup President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner reflected on the inspiring winners of the 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Awards, acknowledging their outstanding contributions to the community.

The winners included:

  • Young Community Citizen of the Year – Kiara Roworth: Kiara established Riverside Physie and Dance to offer inclusive dance classes, volunteering her time to ensure accessibility for all.
  • Community Citizen of the Year – Robert Doherty: Robert’s service with the Wellington Mills Volunteer Bushfire Brigade was key to enhancing community safety and preparedness.
  • Senior Community Citizen of the Year – Josephine Holland: Josephine led the Bethanie Fields Community Fete and volunteered internationally, making a lasting impact over the years.
  • Active Citizenship Award – Dardanup and Districts Residents Association: The group spearheaded the Dardanup Centenary celebrations, creating a vibrant community event.

“Thank you to our 2024 winners and nominees for your incredible efforts,” Cr Gardiner said.

“Now, it’s time to nominate those who deserve recognition in 2025.”

Additional information of the awards: New research from Auspire – Australia Day Council WA, which delivers the Awards in partnership with local councils across Western Australia, supports the presence of such community award programs for the social, cultural and economic impact they make.

In a survey of 2024 recipients, 85% of respondents said the Awards encourage active citizenship, with 91% believing that they are a great way to recognise leaders. Furthermore, 86% of respondents agree that the Awards make communities more inclusive.

The Shire of Dardanup is proud to deliver the Community Citizen of the Year Awards, in partnership with Auspire and Joint Patrons His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM Governor of Western Australia, and Mrs Darrilyn Dawson.
