The mosquito season has started.
Shire of Dardanup Environmental Health Officers have been out and about doing mosquito treatments in the Eaton area.
Treatments involve using larvicide granules which are target specific, meaning they only affect mosquito larvae.
You may see them out treating with a granule spreader backpack which ensures we can accurately treat breeding areas.
To reduce potential mosquito breeding around the home:
- Dispose of all containers which hold water where mosquitoes like to breed.
- Keep grass/weeds and other vegetation short to stop mosquitoes seeking shelter and hiding around the home.
- Keep swimming pools well chlorinated, filtered and free of dead leaves.
- Empty pot plant drip trays once a week.
- Empty, clean and replenish your pet’s water bowl every day.
Don’t forget to put on insect repellent when going outdoors.
Our Shire will also be part of aerial helicopter treatments on 11 October to help minimise their impact this season, with treatment across mosquito breeding areas, including Mangrove Cove, Estuary Drive, South Bunbury, Glen Iris, and neighbouring Shires (Bunbury and Harvey).
Supported by the Dept. of Health, low-altitude flights will spread health-approved larvicide, targeting mozzie larvae — safe for humans and animals!
