We’re sending out a heartfelt ‘Thank you’ to the hundreds of residents, property owners and business operators in our shire who took the time recently to complete our MARKYT Community Scorecard.

We received more than 1,000 submissions have been received via online and postal returns (well above what we received in 2021) and we couldn’t be more grateful.

This is the second time we have engaged independent researchers CATALYSE to undertake this work on our behalf and asked you to complete a Scorecard.

We plan on continuing to do so every two years. The information collected is critical to ensuring our work continues to meet community expectations.

Through the first scorecard in 2021, we discovered our community’s Top 10 priorities were:

  • Safety and crime prevention
  • Youth services and facilities
  • Playgrounds, parks and reserves
  • Growth and development
  • Local roads
  • Seniors’ services and care
  • Conservation and environment
  • Footpaths, trails and cycleways
  • Lighting of streets, public places
  • Sport and recreation.

The research also enables us to benchmark our performance across our operations against other local governments across WA.

The resulting survey report lists various areas of performance with a Performance Index Score out of 100 along with comparison to an ‘Industry High’ and ‘Industry Average’ when rated against approximately 70 other WA local governments who have completed a similar study.

An ‘Overall Performance Index Score’ of 73 out of 100 is presented as a combined measure of the Shire of Dardanup as a ‘place to live’ and as a ‘governing organisation’. Our 2021 score was 7 index points above the Industry Average and four below the Industry High.

Services rated highest by the community in 2021 and receiving a score well above the Industry Average were:

  • Eaton Recreation Centre
  • Playgrounds, parks and reserves
  • Sport and recreation
  • Library and information services
  • Boat ramps

Services rated lowest by the community and receiving a score on or below the Industry Average while also identified by the community as being in need of review were:

  • Safety and crime prevention
  • Consultation
  • Advocacy and lobbying
  • Conservation and environment
  • Communication

The scorecard revealed the Shire of Dardanup is leading the industry in the three performance areas of:

  • Place to own and operate a business
  • Access to housing that meets your needs
  • Boat ramps.

In the two years since, we’ve been working hard on progress toward our community’s identified priorities both through this scorecard research but also through various community engagement activities undertaken including our Council Plan 2022-32 and Council Advisory Groups.

Results of our 2023 MARKYT Community Scorecard will be available in April.
