The popular Old Coast Road Bridge Fishing Platform is reopened ready for the summer fishing and crabbing season.

Shire of Dardanup President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said the platform, a favourite among local anglers and outdoor enthusiasts, was temporarily closed during the winter months for a detailed structural assessment.

Cr Gardiner said engaged a Structural Engineer to carry out the assessment, which highlighted future maintenance.

He said while most of the platform is available for public use, the Shire advises caution around the temporarily restricted section and urges the community to adhere to all safety measures in place.

"The Old Coast Road Bridge Fishing Platform is a beloved community asset, and we're thrilled to welcome residents and visitors back for another fantastic summer season,” Cr Gardiner said.

“The Structural Engineers report deemed the structure safe to be reopened to the public and Council officers are working with a local contractor to schedule in maintenance of the jetty over the coming months. We appreciate the community's patience during this time.”

Cr Gardiner said it’s important to remind everyone to prioritise safety while enjoying the summer crabbing season.

“Please be aware of your surroundings and respect any temporary restrictions for your well-being and the well-being of others,” he said.

“It’s a great jetty for families to enjoy a spot of fishing and crabbing and we hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience each time they visit.”
